CAEDHH Certification is independent of CAEDHH membership.

CAEDHH strives to have all graduates of a Teacher Training Program in Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing certified according to the professional Certification Standards.

It is a major objective of CAEDHH to have all Ministries of Education in the Provinces and Territories recognize CAEDHH Certification Standards as the minimum measure of professional knowledge and skills in hiring teachers of individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. CAEDHH Certification Standards are consistent with internationally held standards. CAEDHH advocates for the hiring of CAEDHH Certified teacher specialist as the most appropriate educational specialist personnel to work with individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.

The internationally derived CAEDHH Certification Standards serve as a guideline to universities in the development of teacher training programs in Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing that will allow educators to meet the knowledge and skill requirements at the beginner’s level.

Applications for Certification are reviewed on an individual basis by the Certification Standards Committee. Graduates of a Teacher Training Program for Teachers of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, whose course work and practicum meet CAEDHH Certification Standards, will be eligible to apply for CAEDHH Professional Certification immediately upon graduation from the Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Training Program.

CAEDHH welcomes graduates of Teacher Education Programs (Deaf/Hard of Hearing) outside of Canada. More in-depth information may be required in order to obtain CAEDHH Certification. Please contact the Chair of the Certification Committee for a preliminary discussion of your application before beginning the application process.

The CAEDHH Certification Committee is made up of representatives from the CAEDHH membership, the CAEDHH executive, and the university teacher training programs in Education of the Deaf. The Certification Committee meets three time a year.
