The CAEDHH National Executive recently adopted the CAEDHH Specialist Certification Standards (November, 2016), replacing the CAEDHH Professional Certification Standards (2009), for teachers of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
The revision process was lead by Dr. Mary Ann Bibby, Professor Emeritus in the Education Faculty at the University of Alberta, and the Certification Committee. The revision took place over 18 months in a process that included input and feedback from CAEDHH members and stakeholders. The final revision of the Specialist Certification Standards has been fully endorsed by the university teacher training programs in the Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing at the University of British Columbia, York University, and Mount St. Vincent University.
The 2009 revision of the CAEDHH Specialist Certification Standards is thorough, consistent with international certification standards, and is reflective of current practice and changing trends in education for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. The standards represent the basic skills that beginning teachers of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing are expected to have, and provide a foundation for training and hiring teachers of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
CAEDHH strives for certification of all graduates of a teacher training program in Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
